A visit to a chiropractor in San Rafael turned up more health issues than I thought it would after I went in for what I thought would be a routine look at an elbow that had been bothering me. I play softball on the weekends as part of a work league and figured I’d hurt my elbow sliding into home plate. Maybe I swung the bat incorrectly. Whatever the case, my elbow hurt and I decided to go in and get everything checked out. I went to the chiropractor because I’d been there before for some foot problems.
Chiropractors have really upped their game in recent years. It used to be you’d go in with whiplash after an auto accident or for back problems due to an old sports injury incurred during the high school years, but now they’re involved in many other things like massages and nutritional stuff. I was surprised when I sat down and they asked me a slew of questions about my overall health. I liked it, and we soon found out that I needed to be taking some vitamin supplements because I likely had a deficiency in magnesium and vitamin D.
Why is this important? Magnesium deficiencies can cause muscles spasms and general body pain. A deficiency in vitamin D can cause a lot of more serious problems. Depression is often linked to a deficiency in that vitamin. The chiropractor looked at my arm and said it should improve if I just took it easy and didn’t move it much for a few days. His advice about vitamins turned out to be even better because my mood improved greatly after I started taking the supplements. It’s amazing how a single visit to the chiropractor has improved my overall sense of well being. I can’t say that about visiting my medical doctor, that’s for sure.
